American Vernacular

American Vernacular is a personal documentary project, exploring the culture of African-American vernacular dance forms. There is a thriving world-wide community of dancers who still practice and perform various flavors of traditional swing and blues dances. I travel all over the US shooting dance events and house parties and competitions, hoping to give people a glimpse into an amazingly diverse and vibrant community that for many has become a way of life.
